This will be my 25th year in education, and I am so excited to begin my 6th year here at Darden. It is my passion to ensure that all children feel safe, valued, and completely supported every single day. This work is close to my heart, as my husband moved to the U.S. in second grade as an ELL student, and we later met in tenth grade. I love being a Darden Dolphin because it is home to one of CMCSS’s most diverse populations. Every single day, I get the privilege to teach and learn from children with varied experiences, cultures, and perspectives. Being a Dolphin means celebrating that diversity and ensuring every student knows they belong.

To wrap up our first fifth grade unit, we ate cornbread on Friday because we learned the U.S. grows and exports the most corn globally. Next, our fifth graders will explore character traits. We will discuss why we value these specific qualities.

Our kindergarten ELL screenings are officially wrapped up! I have been obeserving and assisting in the classrooms. Students who qualified for the program will begin their sessions on Tuesday, September 1. We will focus on having fun while learning basic listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
