School Age Class Descriptions

Learning and Growing Learning Series for Grades K-5

We are excited about the events happening in September for our school aged children. Our theme for the month is Learning and Growing. We will have sessions each week to explore how we learn and grow across all content areas. Come learn more and engage in the fun!  Teachers will be available before and after each session to answer parent questions and offer support. We hope you can join us this month at the Learning Centers!

Story Hour – The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds

Self-doubt can be hard even at an early age. This Peter H. Reynolds book does a marvelous job of teaching children the lesson of turning “I can’t” into “I can” in a way that helps stimulate the creative side of their brain.

Family Timelines

History is a story that occurred over time.  It is important to know how to put events in order.  Participants will create a timeline of the major events of their lives and a timeline of famous figures of U.S. history.  Each family will get to take their timelines home.

Reading and Music for PK-2nd Grade

Early music exposure helps children learn by promoting language, creativity, coordination, social interaction, self-esteem and memory. … Music helps “wire” the brain, supporting a higher level of thinking.  Verbal play is what helps children develop their language, through sounds, rhymes and melodies.

In this session participants will learn and grow as readers through music, melodies, and rhyme. While children are learning, parents will have the opportunity to learn as well. Parents will have a mini workshop opportunity learning strategies for melodies and rhyme that they can use at home to help their child grow as a reader.

Science and Math Fun

Participants will examine plant parts and study the process of photosynthesis.  They will get to work with measurement and number patterns. Each family will get to take their plant and math manipulatives home to keep.
